The Buzz on Mosquitoes: Where They Live and Why They Bite

Screen Shot 2022-12-08 at 2.29.00 PM

We all know that annoying sound of buzzing in our ears, followed by waking up in the morning to our legs and arms covered in itchy bites. It seems like no matter what you do, the bug sprays are never enough to keep you from winding up with mosquitoes flying around you and taking a bite. If you find yourself wondering why you are always dealing with mosquitoes and how you can stop them, keep reading!

Where Do Mosquitoes Live?

Mosquitoes can be found all over the world, but they make their homes in places with high levels of moisture and heat. Humidity is a mosquito’s best friend. Mosquitoes, like all insects, are cold blooded. What this means is that a mosquito’s body temperature mimics that of its surroundings. For that reason, mosquitoes live in warmer climates, preferably between seventy and eighty degrees fahrenheit.

Mosquitoes tend to live around bodies of water, too. Puddles and other smaller pools of water also attract mosquitoes because they lay their eggs in stagnant water. Jacuzzis, heated pools, puddles, lakes, and more are all things that draw mosquitoes in.

Why Do Mosquitoes Bite?

Not every mosquito bites. That’s because blood is not a mosquito’s food source. Mosquitoes actually eat nectar and fruit juices. Only the females bite because they need a blood source in order to reproduce. Their eggs will only hatch as long as temperature remains constantly above fifty degrees, so depending on where you live, the breeding season may not be very long, or it could last for quite a while.

What Can You Do to Stop Them?

Regardless of how hard you try, mosquitoes are persistent. They find their way through the different bug repellents and nets, leaving you with those pesky little bug bites all over your body. Whether you have them currently or are looking to be proactive, it’s important to contact Insight Pest Solutions.

At Insight Pest Solutions, we are experts on mosquitoes. We use a fogging treatment that works outdoors to not only kill current populations, but to kill their eggs. This fogging system creates a barrier around your home which prevents them from coming around or breeding near your home.

Starting with a thorough inspection from one of our expert exterminators, we then create a plan to give your home its own unique treatment according to your unique needs. Insight Pest Solutions is all about working to keep you and your loved ones safe from the dangers that mosquitoes can impose on your home. With our help, you can keep mosquitoes, among other pests, at bay year round so your home continues to feel like your safe space. Check out our website for a list of services we offer, and more information on who we are at Insight Pest Solutions.
